A Tree Comparison
When we first looked at this lot back on August 7, 2001, one of the first things we noticed was the cute little tree in the front yard. It was marked as a purple ash. The most striking thing about the purple ash is that in the fall, the leaves turn a deep purple before falling off. This effect is quite striking in our neighborhood, since most of the trees that are around it are maple trees, which turn red and orange. It is also a very hardy tree, and not particularly bothered by the road salt in the winter, whereas many of the maple boulevard trees in the neighborhood have had to be replaced in the last four years from damage by the road salt.
As I was staring out at a few days ago, I was wondering how much it has grown since we first saw it over four years ago. Here’s a couple of photos that compare the tree as it was then, versus how it is now. What is not apparent from the photos is how much taller it has grown. It is probably seven to eight feet taller now than when we first saw it.
