Welcome to Willie

Willie It’s springtime here in Minnesota again (at least I think so). It seems that almost every spring we add another animal to our household. This year, we’ve added an extra special animal. His name is Willie, and he’s an almost five year old black male greyhound. We adopted him from the Minnesota chapter of Greyhound Pets America.

We have had him for almost twenty four hours now as I type this, and he’s an exceptionally nice dog. He’s been pretty nervous with the new places and new people, but is more comfortable each hour we have him. So far, he’s been wonderful with the kids, the other cats, and the other people and dogs in the neighborhood. In fact, the only growling I’ve heard out of him the whole time so far was when our kitten Zipper was trying to play with him through the bars of his crate last night when he was trying to sleep.

So far today, everyone has asked if Willie is a retired racer. The answer is a most definite yes. His racing name was Willie Bites, and he raced exactly two races, and didn’t finish either one. His short career was all spent at the Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha, Wisconsin. For stats on his races, check out this online site called greyhound-data.com.

Greyhound-data.com also can trace his pedigree. There’s data on his father’s side back to 1820 (31 generations) and to 1895 on his mother’s side (23 generations). To see the pedigree, click on this link.

They’ll be lots more pictures of him on the site in the future, I’m sure!
