Planes of Fame East

Flying to Oshkosh in 1996Planes of Fame East was founded by Robert J. Pond. Mr. Pond was a World War II veteran and successful businessman. His hobby was collecting flyable World War II aircraft. He created the museum as a way to share his aircraft with the public. The museum was run by a very hard working group of volunteers from every walk of life. We had WWII veterans, teachers, nurses, college students, pilots, aircraft mechanics and on and on. We all had a love of history and aviation in common. I joined the group just prior to the Memorial Day Open House in May of 1995.

In my three year association with the group I became a private pilot and I learned about the people and machines that won the greatest war of all time. The museum closed in December of 1997, and Mr. Pond moved the aircraft to a new museum in Palm Springs, California. This web page has a group of pictures and stories from my years at the museum.
